Questions & Answers
Q: Why use a pet sitter?
A: Our pets love routines and schedules, and dislike change. Boarding your pet in a kennel is stressful for the pet and you. Left in an unfamiliar place without you, your pet could develop behavioral problems, eating disorders, illness or fleas. Hiring a pet sitter allows their routine to continue in your absence. They receive the same care and affection they’re used to getting from you.
Q: Do you care for our pets in our home?
A: Yes. Our services begin and end in the clients’ home.
Q: How often do you visit our pets?
A: The minimum is once a day (sorry no every-other-day) The rest is up to you. Most of our dog parents prefer two or three visits a day. Cat parents typically prefer one visit a day as they are fairly independent. Multiple visits in a day are usually spaced 6-12 hours apart. We can also provide overnight pet sitting if preferred. When we initially meet with you we’ll work out the best schedule.
Q:Will my dog receive individualized attention?
A:Yes. We do not pack walk. Unless you have more than one dog in your home scheduled for a walk, or you specifically request your dog be walked with a neighbor's/friend dog, your dog will be walked individually.
Q:Will my pets and I meet the pet sitter/dog walker before service starts?
A:Yes. With every new client we will schedule a Client Initial "Meet & Greet" Interview before services begin. During the visit, the pet sitter meets the pets and owners and reviews policies and guidelines.
Q:Do I have to sign a contract?
A:We need a signed Service Agreement statement that you agree to let us into your home to care for your animals, as well as that you are aware of, and agree to, our policies/procedures.
Q:How am I billed, and when is it due?
A:We bill up-front, per week, so we ask for the week's payment by the time of the first appointment of the week. Holiday reservations must be pain in full at the time of scheduling. For your convenience we accept cash, personal checks, Visa, MasterCard, Discover & American Express. * A $35 fee is assessed on all return checks.
Q: Do you administer medication?
A: Yes. We can give all types of medications. Generally we don't charge extra for this unless the pet is a difficult patient.
Q: How often will you take our dogs for walks?
A: We’re happy to go for walks at every visit, in fact, the majority of our time is usually spent on a walk as most of the other care items don’t require much time. This varies with each client.
Q:Suppose my pet becomes ill while I'm away? What happens?
A:Before agreeing to care for any pet, we make sure we understand any potential or ongoing health issues. We also collect your vet's contact information, have you identify a preferred 24-hour animal hospital and set any care preferences or limits. If there is any problem while you are gone, we follow your directives, and alert you to the situation immediately.
Q: How does payment work? What if I have to cancel my service?
A: If cancellation is made within 24 hours of a reservation, we reserve the right to charge a one visit cancellation fee. This policy will be strictly enforced during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday season.
Q: How much notice do you need?
A: We appreciate as much notice as possible. For first time clients, a four day minimum is required to set up the initial visit to find out your pets routine, and to see us interact with your pets. If you are a past customer, and have a signed contract on file, then 48 hours is usually sufficient. Please don't leave town until you have verbal confirmation of your reservation! Overnight pet sitting availability is limited, especially during the holidays. Although we try to fulfill every order for service, we are often not able to accommodate last-minute requests. Two-weeks minimum is requested for overnight visits.
Q:Is there anything special I should do before I leave?
A:Please make sure you have left enough supplies (pet food, cat litter, medications, treats) for your pet for the duration of your trip. Also, please leave out your pet's leash and bowls. Be sure to show your pet sitter where to find cleaning products in case a mess needs to be cleaned up while you're gone. If your pet's routine has changed since you last spoke with your pet sitter, please let him/her know before you leave.
Q:What should I expect when I return home?
A: You should return to happy, healthy pets. We will leave a note for you that includes a report of our time spent with your pet. Please call us when you return home so we can be certain you arrived, and we no longer need to visit your pet.
